With the theme of “Uplifting Women and Beyond”, Prestige Singapore proudly introduces the 28 honourees of Women of Power 2024.

Sharon Sim, Author and General Partner, Purpose Venture Capital

A 25-year veteran in the financial industry, Sharon applies her multifaceted experience, spanning capital markets, wealth management and family offices, to empowering women. She recently co-authored Why Women Don’t Talk Money, a book that sheds light on the importance of finance and investment for women.

“I wrote it because it’s the book I always wanted to read but couldn’t find. Growing up, money brought both excitement and anxiety. Now, I want to help other women understand finance better. I hope to inspire confidence in women because financial empowerment is a necessity in this era. When women take charge of their finances, everyone benefits.”

Sharon is also the co-founder of Purpose Venture Capital, an early-stage investment firm that funds cutting-edge technologies that address environmental issues in novel ways and supports gender-diverse companies in the technological sector. One of their ventures is Archireef, a female-led envirotech company dedicated to restoring degraded marine ecosystems. Its 3D-printed reef tiles, made from ocean-friendly terracotta to enhance coral growth, are four times more effective than alternatives on the market.

Another venture is Bioworks Japan, a firm specialising in sustainable fashion technology that has produced a carbon-neutral bioplastic additive that not only reduces CO2 emissions by 35 per cent compared to polyester, but improves biodegradability and compatibility with ‘chemical recycling’ of clothes. The firm and its products were showcased at the prestigious Paris Première Vision in 2023 and 2024, alongside fashion heavyweights like Kering, LVMH and Nike.

By investing in companies like Archireef and Bioworks, Sharon believes that seeking financial returns can go hand in hand with supporting innovations that can potentially make significant positive environmental impact.
