There are dozens, if not hundreds, of charlatans and soothsayers out there claiming to have that magical formula to make you rich beyond your wildest dreams. Naturally, only they get rich while the people who buy their books and courses are left clutching sand, slipping through their grip.
This is not one of those books. I’ve had the pleasure of reading it and went away at the end, buoyed and invigorated by the stories and anecdotes. It doesn’t promise riches. Instead, it offers wisdom that only gets from experience and time-worn financial mantras that sometimes needs to be repeated in a sea of bad advice. While the title might suggest that it’s only for women, I dare say that it applies to anyone who wants to learn more about the vagaries of money and how it can help or hurt us, depending on how we approach it.

As a young woman, I worked for my money and gave little thought to how I could make my money work for me.
I knew I should save, so I kept my money in the same bank account that I’d had since I was three years old. I knew I should invest, so I bought a handful of the safest stocks I could find and hoped for the best. Beyond that, money, investing, and financial planning seemed too complex, too specialized, and decidedly too foreign for me. More than that, it just didn’t feel right for me, a woman, to openly talk about money (and not least how to make more of it!).
This story isn’t ideal, but it’s all too common with women. And now’s the time to change that. Women should be empowered to proactively handle and grow their finances. To seek out information and mentors who can help them take control. To break through the barriers that make us uncomfortable talking about money. And to set themselves up for the best possible financial future.
As this timely book demonstrates, as women, we can all play a part even in the simplest of ways, by supporting and mentoring each other, and sharing stories of our own experiences and relationships with money, including lessons learned. I hope that—like me—you’ll come away from this book feeling inspired, uplifted, and ready to make your money work for you.

This book is a reflection of our times, and one that is crucial towards the change needed in this part of the world. It is seldom that you get a chance to unravel the perspectives and emotions of women in Asia when it comes to an otherwise hush-hush topic such as money. By gathering female trailblazers and collecting their stories, Sim and Wong give us a precious look into their minds and how they navigate money. A must-read for any woman wanting to take control of her own finances and future!
